The GATE Architecture and Planning (GATE AR) examination is a competitive national-level test that is aimed at architecture graduates applying for postgraduate (Masters) study or research programmes through IIT's, NIT’s, Spain’s or highly reputed universities. To perform well on the GATE AR test, it is essential to understand the format and make-up of the GATE AR question paper and for that; it is necessary to access appropriate practice questions as well. Kubo Architecture Studio Coaching is then ideally positioned to assist candidate preparation in preparation for being successful in the exam through its; wide-ranging question papers, such as old question banks, full-length mock exams, topic focused practices, and full question banks. Kubo Architecture Studio Coaching will ensure that each candidate approaches their GATE AR preparation with clarity and confidence from the very start.
The GATE Architecture exam lasts three hours and is conducted in a computer-based format. There are 65 total questions worth 100 points in the exam. The exam consists of 2 main sections: General Aptitude and Architecture/Planning. The General Aptitude section is worth 15 points and the Architecture/Planning section is worth 85 points. There are multiple-choice questions (MCQs), multiple-selection questions (MSQs) and numerical answer-type questions (NATs) in the exam that assess:
Conceptual Understanding
Analytical Thinking
Visual Interpretation
Problem Solving Abilities
As opposed to being memory-based exams (in which the focus is on memorisation), the GATE Architecture exam assesses how well a candidate understands concepts, and applies those concepts to real world architectural/planning problems.
The GATE AR Examination Paper has covered a range of topics and will include:
Architectural Design and Visual Perception (Major thematic areas including form, space, composition and graphical representation).
Building Materials and Construction Technologies such as Concrete, Timber and Steel (Different types of materials, e.g., Concrete, Steel, Timber, and their respective uses).
History of Buildings and Architectural Theory (Includes Indian, World and Vernacular Architecture, as well as major Architectural Movements and Architects).
Urban Planning and Housing (Focus on Planning, Land Use and Development, as well as Housing Policies).
Environment and Building Services (Major topics Include Climate, Acoustics, Light, Fire Safety, Water Supply and Sustainable Building Solution Concepts).
Basic Structural Forms and Concepts (Bending Moments, Loads, Stress-Strain behaviours, and Stability) are also included.
Kubo Architecture Studio has the most significant benefit in providing students with the right arrangement of question papers they will need for their preparation for GATE AR. Kubo provides Question Papers for years back, including detailed solutions, to assist the Students in recognising the type of pattern and the difficulty levels of the questions in these question papers. In addition to providing question papers that include detailed answers, Kubo also provides question banks that break down the questions into sections such as Design, History, Planning, Structures and Services so students can improve their preparation section by section. Full-length Mock Test Question Papers are also provided to allow the Students to experience the exact exam format prior to taking the actual exam. Model Question Papers and Expected Question Sets are composed based on the latest trends and analyses and assist the students in preparing to understand the different formats of questions for Nationally Accepted Test (NAT), Multiple Selection Questions (MSQ) and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) and Practice Sheets are created that help students develop speed, precision and their ability to solve maths numerically. With all of these supportive tools available for students preparing for GATE AR, Kubo Architecture Studio ensures that students have everything they need without having to search anywhere else for quality material to practice with.
By answering sample question papers, you will become familiar with how difficult the exam really is, as well as become faster and more accurate during the exam; build your confidence; and know where you need to improve in your studies. You will also have a better understanding of the concept than if you only read it, due to being able to use your knowledge practically. Many of the top GATE AR scorers will continue to do previous year papers and mock tests; therefore, Kubo will help provide this material to help you be able to do those things from a single source.
The GATE Architecture Question paper contains an equal mixture of concept based, analytical, and design related questions. A student who has an in-depth understanding of the question paper and practices multiple question papers, will significantly improve their ability to get a high score. All of the question papers are made available to students through Kubo Architecture Studio Coaching, which makes it possible for students to prepare with added structure and confidence, and to be more likely to meet their postgraduate goals.
If you would like, I can write blog posts on how to prepare for GATE AR, previous year analysis of question papers, or put together a detailed study plan for three, six, or twelve months.
